About Creative Mithila

Creative Mithila is a USA-based initiative founded by Nupur Nishith dedicated to preserving, promoting, and innovating the traditional Mithila (Madhubani) art form from India at a global level.

Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of the Mithila region of India, Creative Mithila bridges tradition with contemporary expression through fine art, public art installations, workshops, exhibitions, community engagement, and cross-cultural collaborations. The initiative aims to bring the intricate storytelling, symbolism, and vibrant visual language of Mithila art to diverse audiences across the world.

Founded in New Jersey in 2017, Creative Mithila has become a recognized platform for authentic Mithila art in the United States. Through the artistic vision of Nupur Nishith, the organization explores both traditional and modern interpretations of the art form while maintaining its cultural essence. Her work spans paintings on paper, canvas, murals, sculptures, wearable art, public pianos, installations, and experimental surfaces that expand the boundaries of traditional folk art.

Creative Mithila’s artworks and projects have been featured in exhibitions, museums, cultural institutions, media platforms, and public spaces including the United Nations, Consulate General of India in New York, Nassau County Museum of Art, NY, Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, CA, Center for Contemporary Art, NJ, Monmouth Museum, NJ, West Windsor Art, NJ, CBS Sunday Morning News, ABC7 News, News12 New York, and various international art exhibitions and cultural festivals.

Beyond exhibitions, Creative Mithila actively conducts workshops, live demonstrations, lectures, and interactive programs designed to educate audiences about the history, symbolism, techniques, and evolving relevance of Mithila (Madhubani) painting in today’s world.
